Dawn of Elysium are a gothic rock band from Bradford, West Yorkshire. The group forms in 2012 and remains active.

Alec Marlow and Emma Hedley develop the idea for the band after attending local goth clubs Carpe Noctum and Flock. In January 2012 they are joined by Phil Holroyd and other musicians, and the band begins writing and rehearsing as a five-piece. After false starts and changes in direction, the line-up settles as a three-piece in March 2012, when the name Dawn of Elysium is chosen. Charles Shelley joins on keyboards in September, shortly before the band’s first gig.

Line-up

Alec Marlow performs vocals and guitar, Emma Hedley plays bass guitar, and Charles Shelley plays keyboards.

Recording

Following their first performance, the band enters the studio and records the Sense of Belonging EP. It is recorded and produced at Voltage Studios in Bradford by Tim Walker, who is associated with the gothic rock band Harlequyn.

The band’s sound is shaped by an interest in both traditional and contemporary gothic rock, and the EP is intended to capture the feel of the original gothic rock movement while keeping a modern edge.
