David Woodcock is a Southend-on-Sea-based singer-songwriter and pianist. He is a prolific writer with a local following, and his songs draw on the classic British songwriting tradition associated with Ray Davies, Steve Harley and Ian Dury.
His self-titled debut album brings together material he has built up over time, including the singles Same Things, Beggars Can’t Be Choosers and Open. The record receives radio support from BBC 6 Music, Xfm, BBC London and Amazing Radio, with Steve Lamacq describing it as “a great little pop record” and John Kennedy selecting it as an X-Posure Hot One.
Woodcock’s writing is noted for sharp lyrics, strong melodies and songs built around humour, pathos, wry observation and energetic performance. His live set includes stories of lost love, lust, jealousy, memory, regret and the consequences of living at full tilt, while his recordings keep that same energy.
