David Francey is a Scottish-born Canadian folk singer-songwriter from Ayrshire, Scotland. Born in 1954, he moves to Canada with his family at the age of 12.

Before beginning a music career, he spends much of his working life in labouring jobs, including carpentry. He starts recording and performing folk music in 1999, after leaving construction, and becomes active on the folk festival circuit, where he continues to perform.

His first album after leaving construction is Torn Screen Door in 1999. He releases nine CDs in total, including Right of Passage and Late Edition. Late Edition appears in 2011, and Right of Passage brings him his third JUNO Award in less than five years. He also receives the SOCAN Folk Music Award.

Francey’s songs are known for plain, direct writing about ordinary people and places, with a focus on detail and everyday experience.
