Dave Spoon

Dave Spoon is the electronic music alias used by Simon Neale, a UK producer and DJ associated with house, electro, progressive house and tech house. He grows up listening to synth-pop and early 1990s house, and he also spends time at a secondary school where a TB303 and Juno 60 sit unused in a music room cupboard, an early setting that shapes his interest in production. He is committed to the house scene and works in a style described as versatile and percussion-driven.

Career

His breakthrough comes in 2004 when Mark Knight signs the 21st Century EP to Toolroom Records. The release gains support from Roger Sanchez, Steve Lawler, Tall Paul and Pete Tong. He later issues the Sunrise EP on Seamus Haji’s Big Love imprint, and its lead piano track receives play from Deep Dish, Axwell, Steve Angello and Lucien Foort among others. He also makes DJ appearances and guest radio mixes, and continues to release original material through Toolroom Records.

Remixes and discography

Neale’s remix work includes reworkings for Stealth, Pool e/Cyber, Big Love and Toolroom, as well as co-productions with Cr2’s MYNC project. His listed releases include 21st Century EP and Sunrise EP, along with mixes for Philippe B, Juke Joint, Southside Hustlers, Antoine Clamaran, Sueno Soul, Jon Gurd, Haji & Emanuel, Thrill Express and Robbie Rivera. The discography also credits versions such as a Toolroom mix for Haji & Emanuel’s “Take Me Away” and a dub for Robbie Rivera’s “Bizarre Love Triangle”.
