daste.
daste. are an Australian trio from the Gold Coast who make chilled R&B and soul music. The group forms around Braxton, Tyler and Callum, who become friends through school and university and then start developing songs after playing with a local band called ANNY.
Formation and early work
Braxton and Tyler first know each other at high school, then meet Callum on a Popular Music degree at Griffith University. After performing together in ANNY for a few months, they begin writing and recording as daste. Their first single, Thinkin Of, is completed in late 2018.
Recordings and releases
The single Thinkin Of leads to a partnership with Mammal Sounds Records, which is in the process of launching at the time. In 2019 the group releases its debut EP, Palette, through the label. The EP includes the tracks Thinkin Of, Myself and SOBER. The trio then releases a second EP, Same As It Ever Was, in early 2020.
Live activity and industry links
daste. later work with Australian booking agency New World Artists. They support acts including Lastlings, First Beige and Midnight Pool Party, and are among 16 artists selected by Triple J’s Dave Ruby Howe to perform at Sydney’s Electronic Music Conference in December 2019.
Style
Their sound is described as a mix of influences including Tora, Parcels, Two Another and Leisure, with a focus on relaxed R&B and soul.
