Das Pop

Das Pop is a Belgian indie pop and rock group from Ghent. The band forms in 1994, and its core line-up includes Lieven Moors, Niek Meul, Bent Van Looy, Reinhard Vanbergen, Tom Kestens, Jen Bernon and Matt Eccles. It is founded by schoolfriends Reinhard Vanbergen, Niek Meul and Bent Van Looy, and begins under the name Things To Come before later adopting the name Das Pop.

Formation and line-up

The group starts in Ghent and develops around Vanbergen, Meul and Van Looy. In 2007 drummer Matt Eccles joins the band, bringing the line-up to a later stage of its career. Eccles is from New Zealand.

Recordings and releases

Das Pop signs to Sony BMG imprint Ugly Truth Records after a showcase at Manchester’s In The City music industry conference. The band releases Fool For Love through UK independent label Prestel Records in January 2008. That release includes remixes by SebastiAn and Yuksek, while other remixes come from Van She, Busy P and Kid Gloves. The song Underground appears on Justice’s mix album Fabric Live and on the group’s ‘A-Z of Justice’ mix on Rob Da Bank’s BBC Radio 1 show. Another track, Never Get Enough, features in the Gossip Girl episode “Goodbye, Columbia”.

Live activity and collaborations

The band tours widely and plays festivals including Glastonbury, O2 Wireless and Lovebox. It also supports Gossip, Death Cab For Cutie and The Kills. In the live circuit it gains a substantial fanbase in Europe.

Later work

Das Pop issues the album The Game with Humo magazine in 2011, with the title track appearing as a single beforehand.
