d'Artagnan

d'Artagnan is the artistic name of Charles D'Artagnan, a Brazilian flautist and multi-instrumentalist from Goiânia, Brazil. He begins his career in 1984 in the SESI Symphonic Band in Goiânia, working with wind instruments and developing a particular focus on the transverse flute. He is self-taught and later broadens his playing to include concertina, zampoña, pan flute, ocarina, bamboo sweet flute and tenor saxophone.

Career

In 1990, d'Artagnan starts a solo career. That year he releases Anhangueras, a work centred on the character explorer of the state of Goiás. In 1992 he releases Umbral entre o Céu e a Terra, followed in 1995 by Radio Z. In 1999 he appears in Rio de Janeiro at the 5ª NO BNDES and at the opening of Raízes do Brasil, an exhibition by the artist Santana in Washington, USA. Later that year he releases Quazar do Cerrado, an eclectic composition that reflects the breadth of his musical style.

Collaborations and media work

Before and alongside his solo work, d'Artagnan makes special appearances on the television programmes Empório Brasileiro and Frutos da Terra. He also contributes arrangements and performance to Gilberto Correia’s Tô de Olho em Você, Aventureiro and Cidade Vazia, and takes part in Querência by Lucas Faria and Voô de Cantor by Pádua.
