Dark Horse

Dark Horse is a name used by three different acts: an Australian hardcore band, a solo project from Traverse City, Michigan, and a jazz trio from Gothenburg, Sweden. The Australian band forms in late 2005, first as a garage-style cover band before turning to original material. Before their first song is finished they add Adam as lead singer and guitarist. Under the earlier name Cairnlea, they play their first live show in December 2006 and then build a strong live schedule in the Melbourne scene, performing more than 20 shows within the following year. By 2008 they are using the name Dark Horse and preparing to return to live performance with new material and a debut EP.

Australian hardcore band

This version of Dark Horse comes from Australia and plays hardcore. The group begins in late 2005, moves from covers to original songs, and completes its lineup with Adam on vocals and guitar. Its early activity centres on writing, live shows, and developing material for a first EP.

Solo project from Michigan

Dark Horse is also the solo name of Zach Power from Traverse City, Michigan. This project starts in August 2014. Public releases include tracks issued through SoundCloud and a four-track EP titled Instrumental Demos.

Jazz trio from Sweden

The third Dark Horse is a jazz trio from Gothenburg, Sweden, with John Holmström on piano, Alfred Lorinius on bass, and Mårten Magnefors on drums. The trio releases its second album, Listen, on Finnish label We Jazz Records. Holmström describes the group as a non-conceptual basement band that moves from free-form playing towards collective composition, and says the record reflects that approach at its most developed point so far.
