Daniel Caesar is a Canadian R&B and soul singer-songwriter from Toronto, Canada. Born in 1995, he grows up in a suburb of Toronto to Bajan and Jamaican parents and sings soul and gospel music from an early age, including performances in front of his father’s church congregation. He leaves home at 17 to focus on a career in music.

Early releases

Caesar independently releases his first two EPs, Praise Break in 2014 and Pilgrim’s Paradise in 2017. Praise Break appears at number 19 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 20 best R&B albums of 2014.

Albums and awards

His debut album, Freudian, arrives in 2017 and brings him wider attention. It is nominated for two Grammy Awards: Best R&B Album and Best R&B Performance for “Get You”. The following year, he wins Best R&B Performance for “Best Part”. He also wins a Juno Award.

Later work

Caesar follows Freudian with Case Study 01 in 2019. He then appears on “Peaches” with Justin Bieber and Giveon in 2021, a multi-platinum worldwide hit. His catalogue has more than 5 billion streams, and he has more than 31 million monthly listeners. On Spotify, he ranks among the most listened-to artists in the world and among the most streamed Canadian artists of all time.
