Dancing Lotus

Dancing Lotus are a seven-piece collective from Lincoln in the United Kingdom, formed in 2007 by students at the University of Lincoln. Their music is described by Radio One as “that acoustic rap thing”, reflecting a style that mixes acoustic and rap elements.

Early activity in Lincoln

After forming, the band begins playing venues around Lincoln and quickly builds a local following among students and other audiences in the city. Within two months of starting, they are invited to perform live on BBC Radio Lincolnshire. After about a year together, they are named the University of Lincoln students’ favourite local band.

Recordings and releases

That early attention leads to The Pillow Sessions, a monthly show hosted by the band at Mezz Bar in Lincoln. Dancing Lotus launch their self-produced debut album, Live Sessions, with a full performance at a packed Mezz Bar, and copies sold at the event later sell out. They follow this with a second album, Last Line Of A Sonnet, and continue working on a third self-produced album.

Competitions and live profile

Dancing Lotus win several local music competitions, including BBC Introducing, and reach the finalists stage of Jamie Oliver’s unsigned band competition. They also plan a national tour supported by three self-produced videos and aim to secure shows at larger venues across the country.
