Dan Marshall is a Welsh electronic producer and beat-maker from Cardiff. He is known for drum and bass productions and for moving towards a more experimental style that blends jazz, funk, R&B and electronic rhythms. His work develops from beat-driven music with no fixed tempo boundaries.

Career

Marshall begins in drum and bass before broadening his approach after borrowing an MPC and buying into Moog equipment. This shift leads him to explore natural rhythms and a wider mix of influences, rather than staying within a single d&b framework.

Modula Beats

He founds Modula Beats, a collective and label, in 2014. Its first release is Modula FM, a fictional beat-based Cardiff radio station concept. Marshall is both the founder and producer associated with the project.

Style and activity

Marshall’s music draws on liquid funk, drum and bass, electronic music, jazz, funk and R&B. He also works on an EP that moves further into experimental territory.
