Dan Ghenacia is a French DJ, producer and record label founder associated with minimal techno, electronic music, deep house, tech house and live performance.
Background and early career
He returns from a student trip to California in the mid-1990s with an interest in psychedelic West Coast house grooves. After settling again in Paris, he opens Traffic Records, a record shop that becomes a reference point for nu-school house. He also builds a reputation through his Kwality after-party residency at the Batofar, where he develops his style and gains recognition as one of the leading DJs of his generation.
International work
In 2001 he closes the record shop and ends the Batofar residency, then begins to play abroad. He establishes an international profile through regular appearances at clubs including Circo Loco at DC10 in Ibiza and Back to Basics at Rehab in Leeds.
Collaborations and projects
Ghenacia works with several artists across his career. With David Duriez, he begins producing and launches the label Freak n’ Chic. With Ivan Smagghe, he starts a monthly residency at the Rex Club in Paris called The Other Way. With David K, he produces under the U & I name, while later continuing to work closely with David K and Dyed Soundorom.

Under the U & I alias with David K, he releases tracks on Freak n’ Chic and Crosstown Rebels, including Rockin’ Fly and Rebelone – Crocodile. Freak n’ Chic also releases material from other artists, including Abusator by Sweetlight and tracks by :Terry: and Jamie Jones.
