Dan Freeman

Dan Freeman is a house and electronic artist associated with progressive house and tech-house. He spends equal parts of his life in Europe and North America, travels extensively, and is based in Toronto, which he now calls home.

Style and influences

Freeman’s music blends Balkan influences with a modern electronic sound. Tracks such as “Balkan Promises” show him combining native Balkan musical elements with tech-house production. His work also focuses on reworking traditional instruments and placing them in a contemporary context.

Releases and production work

“Balkan Promises” and “Sasquatch Sex” are both released on Polytechnic Recordings and are described as key tracks in his development. The Italian label Eclectic Records also releases his music through the Forty-Two EP. He remixes Paranoid Jack & Julien Loreto’s “Fatal Attraction” for Toronto’s Generation Recordings. He also produces “Paper Hearts” by Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire.

Radio and Canadian dance music

In 2006, Freeman signs with FRISKY Radio to present Magnetic North, a monthly two-hour show devoted to Canadian electronic talent. He conceives the programme himself and uses it to feature artists including John Acquaviva, Misstress Barbara, Greg Benz & MD, Paranoid Jack, mParadis, Nicky Delgado and Greg Gow.

Performances and scene presence

Over the course of more than a decade, Freeman performs at international club venues and alongside well-known acts. In Toronto’s club scene, he builds a steady following for his smooth, melodic sound.
