Damon Albarn

Damon Albarn is an English musician, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer from Whitechapel, United Kingdom. Born in 1968, he is active from 1989 and is best known as the lead singer of Blur, a band associated with alternative rock, art pop, britpop and rock.

Career

Albarn forms the virtual band Gorillaz with Jamie Hewlett. In that project, he works as a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. He also performs in The Good, the Bad & the Queen, where he sings and plays keyboards. That group includes Paul Simonon on bass, Simon Tong on guitar and Tony Allen on drums and percussion, and its album is produced by Danger Mouse. Another project is the opera Dr Dee, created with theatre director Rufus Norris. The work is based on the life of Dr John Dee, and it first appears at the Palace Theatre, Manchester, as part of the Manchester International Festival. The soundtrack is released by Virgin.
