Damnations Hammer
Damnations Hammer is a doom metal group from Gothenburg, Sweden, active since 1993. The band is formed by guitarist and vocalist Tim Preston and is completed by bassist Andy Whitehead and drummer Steve Leach.
Style and influences
The group takes influence from 1980s avant-garde metal, as well as from bands such as Celtic Frost and Candlemass. Its music is described as dark, doom-laden metal with surreal atmospherics. The band is also associated with doom metal, death metal and death/doom.
Recording and debut album
Because of the practical difficulty of rehearsing with Steve Leach living on the Isle of Man, the band invests in its own home studio in order to record its debut album, Disciples of the Hex, in early 2012. The album contains eight tracks of old-school doom metal.
Lyrics and themes
The lyrics on Disciples of the Hex draw loosely on the writing of H. P. Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard. The songs also explore ancient wars and imagery described as Giger-like surrealism.
