Daisy Victoria

Daisy Victoria is a UK art rock and indie group active since 2014. The project begins as a solo artist vehicle in January 2014, before developing a profile on the live circuit and around a run of EP releases.

Releases

Her debut EP, Heart Full of Beef, is released in March 2014. A second EP, Nobody Dies, follows in November 2014. The music is co-written with her brother Sam, who also produces it.

Reception and radio support

Daisy Victoria receives repeated radio support from BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens after a Latitude 2014 Lake Stage appearance, as well as plays from BBC 6 Music’s Mary Anne Hobbs and XFM’s John Kennedy. Lauren Laverne describes her as “a rising star” and twice names her her MPfree of the day. BBC Introducing presenters Graeme Mac, Richard Haugh, Sophie Little and Gary Standley also champion her debut singles.

Press responses include praise from CLASH, which describes the vocals as “stunning” and the songwriting as “beautiful”. i-D features her as an “intriguing newcomer” with “raw emotion” and “enchanting vocal talent”, while The 405 calls one of her videos “wonderful”. Pigeons and Planes includes her in a “15 songs you have to download now” feature. Sheila Ravenscroft, director of The John Peel Centre, describes Heart Full of Beef as a “standout track”.

Live activity and earlier appearances

Before becoming a solo artist, Daisy Victoria performs at Latitude 2013, Harvest at Jimmy’s and The John Peel Centre. In winter 2014, she plays a string of dates in support of the EP release.

Style and influences

Her work is associated with art rock and indie, and she is compared to PJ Harvey and Kate Bush. She says she draws musical inspiration from church bells, the sound of power lines in the rain, and natural sounds. Outside music, she is described as a creature of habit who enjoys walking in all weather except bright sunshine, watches too many films and does not read enough.

She is the child of a former cyclist and a hairdresser.
