Da Sunlounge

Da Sunlounge is a Nottingham-based house group made up of Simon Newby and Martin Newby. It works in funky house, deep house and funk, and is also tagged with nu metal in the available metadata.

Background and early activity

Simon Newby, using the Da Sunlounge name, begins DJing in the Midlands deep house scene and becomes resident at the Nottingham night Travelling Without Moving. There he plays alongside Terry Francis, Inland Knights, Peace Division, Andy Weatherall, Digs’n’Woosh and Diesel. A dub plate of one of his early productions is heard by Clive Henry of Peace Division, who signs it to Low Pressings.

Da Sunlounge produces deep house for more than a decade and releases music on a wide range of labels, including Low Pressings UK, Tango Recordings USA, Detour USA, Camouflage Recordings Canada, Ri’que Japan, Amenti Music, Developed Music USA, DoubleDown USA, Good Family Records USA, Freaked Records UK, DAE Recordings USA, So Sound USA, Uniform USA, GreensKeepers Music, Tight Recordings, OneThirty Recordings, TL Music, BlackSoul Music, Ryralio Records, Flavor Records, Kolour Records, Lost My Dog, Chillin Music and UMA Music.

It also runs Myna Music and Bambino Recordings, with Bambino launched in December 2005. Myna reaches its 34th release and is described as a leading underground label.

DJ support, compilations and touring

Da Sunlounge receives support from DJs including Laurent Garnier, Nic Fanciulli, Pete Tong, Ian Pooley, Miguel Migs, Silicone Soul, Swirl People, Lawnchair Generals, Ashley Beadle, Inland Knights, David Duriez, The Littlemen and Mark Farina.

Its productions appear on mix CDs and compilations such as H-Foundation’s and Peace Division’s Nite:Life mixes for NRK, Jon Marsh’s Fabric mix, Inland Knights’ Family Duals, the Mixmag cover CD Tribal Sessions mixed by Greg Vickers, Pizza Jazz Music on RyRalio Records, Hed Kandi’s Beach House San Francisco Sessions Vol. 6, and Olivier Desmet’s Alone in the Dark CD.

The act also tours widely, with performances in the USA, Australia, Malaysia, Brazil, Serbia, Spain, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Slovakia, Poland, Latvia, Berlin, Belgium, Bulgaria, Norway, Sweden and the UK. It plays in bars, backrooms, clubs with capacities above 1,000, and at free parties in the Midlands countryside.
