D E N A is the music project of Denitza Todorova, a Bulgarian-born songwriter and vocalist based in Berlin. Born and raised in Bulgaria, she moves to Berlin in 2005 and focuses there on writing songs, singing and programming beats.

Background and style

She first comes to wider attention as a guest vocalist on two albums by The Whitest Boy Alive. Her own work develops from self-composed beats and combines pop, 1990s-influenced hip-hop and Balkan rhythms.

Releases and live work

D E N A releases several tracks that draw attention online. She also plays support slots for Das Racist, Icona Pop, The Whitest Boy Alive and LCMDF, and performs at SXSW in 2013, where her live show builds further. Her debut album, Flash, is due for release in 2014.

Recognition

Spiegel includes her among its Top 10 international pop acts to rise in 2013.
