Cyantific

Cyantific is a UK drum and bass project from the United Kingdom, active from 2002 to 2021. It is made up of Jonathan Stanley and Matt Whitehead, and is associated with drum and bass and liquid funk.

Origins and early development

Jonathan Stanley and Matt Whitehead meet at high school in South West London. At that point, Whitehead plays in a heavy metal band, while Stanley collects drum and bass records. The pair begin making music on basic sequencing software using an old PC. Whitehead leaves the project in 2009.

Recordings and labels

Cyantific joins Hospital Records in 2002 after High Contrast alerts Colman and Goss to the project’s award-winning tracks and live performance. The act releases 12-inch singles, remixes and compilation appearances, building an underground following. Later releases appear on Critical and Ram, and the project is also associated with Cyantific Discovery and CYN Music.

Notable releases and recognition

Tracks that help establish the project include Don’t Follow, described as a soul-influenced collaboration with Diane Charlemagne, and Output. In 2006, Cyantific releases its debut album Ghetto Blaster. The project wins the BBC 1Xtra Best Newcomer DJ award in 2007.

Later activity

In 2014, Cyantific signs exclusively with Viper Recordings and releases Bring You Love, followed by High Water Mark. The project also issues a remix of Brookes Brothers’ Anthem, which appears on BBC 1Xtra’s A playlist. Jonathan Stanley later states that he does not intend to continue producing, and no further music is released after that point.
