Cutline

Cutline is a UK electronic music group that has been active since 2010 and centres on Daniel Wilberforce. The project works across dubstep, drum and bass, electro and brostep, and its productions often move between those styles rather than staying within one fixed genre.

Early recognition and breakthrough releases

Cutline first gains notice for the future-garage collaboration with Barbarix, “Hey! Plane Rave”, which receives support from BBC Asian Network and is released on High Rankin’s Suicide Dub label. The group then attracts wider attention with a remix of Mindflow’s “Switched” for Ctrl-Z’s Never Say Die label. That version outperforms the original and a DC Breaks remix in sales, reaches number 2 in the Beatport charts, and brings the project to the attention of Paul Van Dyk.

Remixes, radio support and collaborations

Following that success, Cutline works on remixes for J Majik & Wickaman, The Qemists, Nick Thayer and The Prototypes. The group also turns its Radio 1 track “Cascade” into a drumstep remix that attracts support from Andy C. Another notable track is “Let Me Go”, which appears on a various artists EP on NSFW, becomes the most favourited video on YouTube, and is played on Mistajam’s BBC 1Xtra show and by Annie Nightingale. Cutline also prepares a mix for Annie Nightingale in December 2010.

Label work

Cutline runs the label Not Safe For Work, which releases music by 501, with further releases planned from High Rankin, J Majik & Wickaman, Excision, Cubs and Cutline themselves.
