Cut Copy

Cut Copy are an electropop and synth-pop group from Melbourne, Australia, active since 2001. The lineup includes Dan Whitford, Tim Hoey, Mitchell Scott, Ben Browning and Bennett Foddy, with Foddy listed as a former member. The band begins as a project for Whitford, who handles lead vocals, keys and guitar, and also works as a graphic designer and DJ. Its sound sits within electronic and indie pop, with influences drawn from acts such as Daft Punk, New Order, Electric Light Orchestra and Kraftwerk.

Career

Whitford recruits a band in 2003. Cut Copy tour internationally for the first time in 2005, playing London, New York and Los Angeles. The group performs with acts including Franz Ferdinand, TV on the Radio, Pretty Girls Make Graves and Junior Senior. Cut Copy is signed to Modular in Sydney and also to Cutters Records.

Releases

The band releases its debut album, Bright Like Neon Love, in 2004. Singles from the album include “Saturdays,” “Future” and “Going Nowhere.” Cut Copy also issues a Fabriclive mix album featuring synth, retro and electro-pop tracks, including material by MSTRKRFT and New Young Pony Club.

The second album, In Ghost Colours, appears in 2008 and includes the singles “So Haunted,” “Hearts on Fire,” “Lights and Music” and “Far Away.” In 2011, the band releases Zonoscope, with the singles “Where I’m Going,” “Take Me Over” and “Need You Now.” Zonoscope also marks the addition of Ben Browning as a full member, after he has previously toured with the band.
