CURXES [kurs-iz] are Macaulay Hopwood and Roberta Fidora who meet at a mid-point between the coastal towns of Brighton and Portsmouth. From the piers, they come brandishing everything from synthesizers to biros to glockenspiels and use them to create what has been described as “blitz-pop”. Following two self-released singles ‘Haunted Gold’ & ‘Spectre’, they were listed at number 11 in the BLOG SOUND OF 2013 and HYPE MACHINE ZEITGEIST lists of ones to watch for 2013 alongside Haim, CHVRCHES and Tom Odell, as well as sharing stages with Chapel Club, Seasfire, TRST and Wolf Alice. They were also invited by CHVRCHES to produce a remix for their ‘Recover EP’, which was released on Goodbye/Virgin Records in April 2013 and reached 91 in the UK Singles Chart. “The perfect example of original, intelligent pop music” - The 405 “Creators of bombastic electronic sound, reminiscent of Sleigh Bells or Crystal Castles” - This is Fake DIY “Let’s cut to the chase Curxes are f*cking amazing. No ifs, no buts, we mean “AMAZING” in the caps locks, fifty foot high, flashing neon letters style, amazing” - The Von Pip Musical Express “The sound of two robots f*cking” - Breaking More Waves “Darkly intense … both terrifyingly and infectiously arresting. Perhaps even dangerously sexy” - Faded Glamour “Blitz-pop bands Curxes and Chvrches were presumably separated at birth: both have idiosyncratic, search engine-friendly names and both produce catchy, synth-humping pop music. Though musically and orthographically related (Chvrches have been remixed by the duo), Curxes’ Avant-Guarded suggests they are the more extroverted and weirder of the long-lost siblings” – Q Magazine
