Current Value is the drum and bass project of Berlin producer Tim Eliot. He works in darkstep, drum and bass, electronic, jump up, neurofunk and skullstep.

Background

Eliot begins making electronic music in 1992, after training in classical piano. He later gains attention on Berlin radio stations and develops a profile as a producer from the city’s drum and bass scene.

Releases and labels

His early catalogue includes releases on Don Q and Position Chrome, which help establish his reputation. Early Position Chrome tracks such as “Creative Robot”, “Skybreaker” and “Bass Riot” are especially well received, particularly in North America. He also releases music on DonQ Records, Ruff-Teck, Klangkrieg, Phantom Noise, NoBreaks and Soothsayer Recordings, and is associated with Section 8 Recordings. Across his output he issues numerous singles and four LPs.

Later releases include a split 12-inch with Kid Kryptic and the EP The Unspoken. His work also appears on Soothsayer Recordings, Intransigent Recordings, Obscene Recordings, Tech Itch, Algorythm and Evol Intent Recordings.

Style and performance

Current Value is associated with the darker, more dissonant side of techstep and with the development of underground drum and bass. He performs live in Berlin and in other parts of Europe and the United States. He also works with singer SNOW on a vocal live set.

Education and collaborations

In 2004, after a year of study, Eliot receives a diploma from the School of Audio Engineering SAE. He also collaborates with SPL and plans material for Lost Soul Recordings.

Influence

His releases leave a strong mark on drum and bass and techno, and his work is described as a significant part of the techstep movement.
