Curl

Curl is an electronic and indie-leaning project from Nice, initially started by French producer and guitarist Frank Amendola of Corpus Delicti. The project develops as an international collaboration with activity split between Nice and Marseille in the south of France and Portsmouth on the south coast of the UK.

Formation and line-up

From 2009, the music features the vocals of Hayley Alker, with Wil Sintaste on additional guitar, Manu Acqualeni on bass guitar and Jonny Callender on drums. Callender is also known as a UK producer and has worked with Cranes and Vex.

Releases

Curl releases the album Ultimate Station in 2004 on EMI France, followed by Inner... in 2010, also on EMI France. In 2011 the group issues the album We are Complex across Europe on the Paris-based label D-Monic. Exit Real Life follows in 2014, presenting a new wave and dreamlike sound built around twisting guitar chime, synthesizers, heavy rhythms and vocal melodies. Shapeshifters appears in 2019.

Style

The project is associated with shoegaze, trip-hop, new wave, indie rock and indie. Its sound combines electronic production with melodic vocals, layered guitars and synthesizer textures.
