Cull

Cull is the name used by more than one act. One is a dreampop, psych and shoegaze band from Sydney, Australia, formed in 2012. Another is a noise and power electronics project formed in 2003, with tracks appearing on compilations and collaborations with other noise acts including Death Pact International. A third is a doom metal band from Portland, Oregon, formed in spring 2007.

Sydney band

The Sydney Cull works in dreampop, psych and shoegaze. It forms in 2012 and releases its first track, Good People Disappear, to positive responses from national and international outlets. It is described as shoegaze with a lighter, more playful edge.

Noise and power electronics project

The noise and power electronics Cull forms in 2003. Over time it places tracks on compilations and works with other noise artists, including Death Pact International. Its lyrics and themes focus on anti-civilisation anarchism, anarcho-primitivism, animal liberation and related ideas. It is also interviewed for zines such as xWarboundx.

Portland doom metal band

The Portland, Oregon, Cull begins in spring 2007 and draws on the ethics of riot grrrl and anarchism in the local metal scene. The group grows out of longstanding friendships and earlier music projects. Its first line-up forms when Dylan, Melissa and Jacqui start writing together, and Dylan later brings in his younger brother, Ansel, helping create a close-knit band dynamic. The band also rejects the macho posturing often associated with metal and aims to create community and space for women in heavy music.
