Cryptodira

Cryptodira is a progressive metal and post-metal group from Mount Sinai, Long Island, New York. The band’s lineup includes Scott Acquavella, Shane Kennedy, Mike Monaco, Matthew Taibi, Jeremy Lewis, Vincent Romanelli and Mike Monaco is listed among the members. The group forms around a line-up of Scott Acquavella on vocals and guitar, Shane Kennedy on bass and vocals, Mike Monaco on guitar and vocals, and Matthew Taibi on drums.

History

Cryptodira starts as an unsigned band and self-releases three EPs: The Four Quarters in 2012, Recursions in 2013, and An Unmarked Grave in 2014. In 2015, the band releases a 7-inch split with East of the Wall, with Cryptodira contributing the track “Speaking the Ocean” and East of the Wall contributing a cover of Nick Drake’s “River Man.”

Shane Kennedy leaves the band in 2017 to pursue a career in computer science and is replaced by Jeremy Lewis, a long-time friend of the group. In the same year, Cryptodira signs to Good Fight Music and issues its debut full-length album, The Devil’s Despair.

Collaborations and live activity

Cryptodira records “Allies to Ignorance” with guest vocals from Andrew Herman of Johnny Booth. The band also shares stages with acts including Deafheaven, Between the Buried and Me, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Stray From the Path, Ever Forthright, Hollow Earth and Scale the Summit.
