Crimedesk

Crimedesk are a UK punk band formed in Glenrothes on 6 March 1979. The group comes out of the DIY punk scene and most of the early members previously play in a short-lived band called The Burnt Curtains.

Line-up

The current line-up is Lindsay Munro on vocals, Alan Cormie on guitar, Rod Munro on bass and John Sinclair on drums. Former members include Steve Sinclair, who plays guitar and bass, and Kenny Boyle, who sings lead vocals.

Early years

The original Crimedesk line-up is Lindsay on vocals, Alan on guitar, Steve on guitar, Rod on bass and John on drums. The first live performance takes place at Newcastle Primary School in Glenrothes in summer 1979. More gigs follow in Glenrothes, Leven and Kirkcaldy later that year.

In November 1979 the band records tracks at Lomond Centre Recording Studio. During these sessions Alan sings lead vocals as well as playing guitar, because Lindsay has left the band the day before. One of the songs recorded is Arms Race, which becomes Crimedesk’s first single and appears on the Newtown Products DIY label EP NTP1.

Line-up changes and later activity

After the first single, the band continues for a short time as a three-piece and plays a few gigs in Fife until a replacement for Lindsay is found. Kenny Boyle then joins as lead singer and the band plays several shows around Fife, including a performance at the Mountfleuie Centre with Patrol and others.

Rod and Kenny later leave to form Bear. Steve replaces Rod on bass, Alan returns to lead vocals and guitar, and Lindsay rejoins as lead singer. This line-up plays a few more gigs during 1981, including shows with Patrol from Leven and Nationwide from Kirkcaldy.

Breaks and regrouping

Crimedesk then remains inactive from around 1982 to 1996. In 1996 the original line-up reunites and spends a few months rehearsing at Q10 Studios in Glenrothes, also recording a few tracks. After another period of inactivity, the group returns to Q10 Studios in 2001 and performs a live set at Lindsay’s wedding reception at the Kenmore Hotel in December.

In summer 2007 the band reforms again, with members living across Scotland, and begins rehearsing at Clearwater Studios in Perth. In November 2007 Crimedesk headlines the Baggershambles music event in Crieff. The band also records tracks at Clearwater and mentions the possibility of releasing an EP.
