Crashdïet

Crashdïet is a Swedish hard rock and glam rock group that forms in Stockholm in 2000. The band goes through several line-up changes and early setbacks, but it continues to record and perform through multiple eras.

History

After forming in Stockholm, the group breaks up not long afterwards because of internal problems. In 2002, part of the original line-up returns with new members and the band reforms. It builds a following through live performances and releases its first single in 2004.

The group then gains wider attention after appearing in television commercials for the mobile phone service provider Tre. Its debut album, Rest In Sleaze, is released in 2005 and reaches the Swedish top 10.

Line-up changes and albums

Lead singer Dave Lepard dies in January 2006. After his death, the remaining members initially feel unable to continue, but later choose to keep the name with the approval of Lepard’s family. H. Olliver Twisted joins as singer and gives his first live performance at the Stockholm Rest In Sleaze festival. The band releases its second album, The Unattractive Revolution, in October 2006.

The single In the Raw reaches number 11 on the Swedish albums chart. H. Olliver Twisted later leaves in 2008, and the singer is also known as Olli Herman, who later fronts the Finnish hair rock band Reckless Love.

By June 2009, Crashdïet finds another new singer, Simon Cruz. With him, the band releases its third album, Generation Wild, in 2010. The record peaks at number 3 on the Swedish album chart and number 1 on the hard rock chart.

In 2013, the group releases its fourth studio album, The Savage Playground. The first single, Cocaine Cowboys, appears in December 2012. Simon Cruz leaves during the middle of the band’s 2015 Japan tour.

In 2017, Gabriel Keyes is announced as the new lead singer. The single We Are Legion follows at the end of that year, and Reptile is also released in 2019. The full-length album Rust comes out in 2019 via Frontiers Music Srl with Keyes on vocals. The band later issues a seventh studio album, Art of Chaos, via Ninetone Records.
