Crash Diet

Crash Diet is a Swedish hard rock and glam rock group formed in Stockholm in 2000. The band develops out of the early 2000s Swedish hard rock scene and remains active.

Early years and first releases

The group forms in Stockholm in 2000, but internal problems lead to an early split. In 2002, part of the line-up returns with new members and the band reforms. It gradually builds an audience through live shows before releasing its first single in 2004. More singles follow, along with appearances in television commercials for the mobile phone company Tre.

Crash Diet releases its debut album, Rest In Sleaze, in 2005. The album reaches the Swedish top 10. The band’s early rise is cut short when singer Dave Lepard dies in January 2006. After this, the remaining members first decide not to continue without him, but later search for a new vocalist and keep the name with the blessing of Lepard’s family.

Line-up changes and later albums

H. Olliver Twisted becomes the new singer and makes his first live appearance at the Stockholm Rest In Sleaze festival. The band then releases its second album, The Unattractive Revolution, in 2006. The single “In the Raw” reaches number 11 on the Swedish albums chart.

Twisted leaves in 2008 because of lack of commitment. He later performs under his real name, Olli Herman, as frontman of the Finnish hard rock band Reckless Love. In 2009, Crash Diet finds a new singer, Simon Cruz. With Cruz, the band releases Generation Wild in 2010, and the album reaches number 3 on the Swedish album chart and number 1 on the hard rock chart.

In 2013, the band releases its fourth studio album, The Savage Playground. The first single from the album is “Cocaine Cowboys”. Simon Cruz leaves during the middle of the band’s 2015 Japan tour.

Recent activity

In 2017, Crash Diet announces Gabriel Keyes as its new lead singer. The band follows this with the single “We Are Legion” and later releases “Reptile”. Its album Rust appears in 2019 on Frontiers Music srl, with Keyes on vocals. The band is also listed with later members including Martin Sweet, Eric Young, Olli Herman and other line-ups associated with the group over time.

Crash Diet’s style is described through hard rock and glam rock, with sleaze rock and glam metal often associated with its sound.
