Cosmin TRG is a Romanian electronic producer from Romania who works across ambient, future garage, minimal techno, tech house, techno and uk funky, as well as house, dubstep and experimental electronic music. He is based in Berlin.

Style and development

His early releases appear under the name TRG, and his sound later develops into a form of ghostly, detailed techno built from shuffling percussion, eerie synth lines, clipped vocal fragments and references to Detroit and Chicago techno. His music changes significantly over time rather than staying within one fixed style, with connections made to 1990s Warp Records sounds, 2000s London club music and Berlin techno imprints such as Fachwerk.

Releases and labels

In 2007, as TRG, he breaks through with the “Put You Down” / “Broken Hearts” release, which launches Hessle Audio. He goes on to record for Rush Hour, Modeselektor’s 50 Weapons and Hemlock, and a debut album is due on 50 Weapons in 2011.

DJ and live work

He DJs internationally, with sets at venues including Fabric, Sonar and Berghain. His live setup also develops over time, with an emphasis on a more immersive and less predictable club performance.

Profile

Cosmin TRG describes his approach as having no fixed template, instead focusing on making music personal. His work is presented as distinct within contemporary electronic music through its shifting style and recognisable sonic character.
