Cosines

Cosines are a UK group whose line-up includes Simon James Nelson, Alice Hubley, Jonny Tansey, Kajsa Tretow, Daniel Chapman and Matthew Harms. The group forms around Nelson and Hubley, who meet in London in 2009 after a Stereo Totale gig. Their name becomes associated with a small collaborative circle that includes Daniel Chapman and the late Jonny Tansey, and the members also appear in other acts including Arthur and Martha, Vermont, The Loves, Brother Francisco, The Duloks and One Fathom Down.

The group’s sound is tagged as electronica, indie, pop and indie rock. Their interests and references include the Beach Boys, analogue synths and procrastination techniques, and their early history is closely tied to the informal circumstances in which Nelson helps Hubley with household DIY before they continue making music together.
