Cory Hanson

Cory Hanson is an American singer and guitarist from Los Angeles. He co-founds the psychedelic rock band Wand, and he also records as a solo artist.

Early work and other projects

Before forming Wand in 2013, Hanson plays in a range of other bands and projects. These include Magic Mountain, Hellomynameischad, Blackagar Boltagon, together PANGEA, the Meatbodies and Mikal Cronin. He also releases three albums of abstract electronic pop under the name WHITE.

Wand

Wand becomes Hanson’s main focus after it forms. The band records and releases three albums and a number of singles between 2014 and 2015, and tours frequently, including shows with Ty Segall. Segall later performs with Hanson as an acoustic duo and brings Hanson, along with Wand member Evan Burrows, into his backing band the Muggers for his 2016 touring dates. Hanson’s work with Wand continues for several years after that.

Solo releases and collaborations

Hanson’s solo debut, The Unborn Capitalist from Limbo, appears in 2016 on Drag City. The album has an acid folk influence and is described as lushly orchestrated. He releases Pale Horse Rider in 2021. In 2020, he issues a 7-inch single with two new collaborations with Ty Segall, and he also appears as a guest on Bill Callahan and Bonnie “Prince” Billy’s collaborative track “Night Rider’s Lament.”

Style

His music is associated with folk pop, psychedelic folk, psychedelic pop and rock, alongside psychedelic rock and freak folk.
