Cortisa Star
Cortisa Star is a rapper and model from Delaware. Born in 2005, she is a transgender woman who begins releasing music in 2022 after posting a video that jokingly describes her as an “underground rap princess,” despite having no previous rapping experience.
Music
Star gains wider recognition in 2024 with the single “Fun,” which goes viral on Twitter and TikTok. Her early releases include “Cortisa Crump” and “Fun,” both issued in February 2024, followed by “Bad ASF” in December 2024. By the end of 2024, she has released eleven songs.
Her music draws on experimental hip hop, hip hop and jersey club rap, with heavy bass also central to her sound. It is also associated with hyperpop and drill influences. Star has said that part of her bass inspiration comes from a scene in the animated series Adventure Time. Her lyrics are described as explicit, and her delivery as bold and carefree. Outlets describe her style as “bubbly blown-out drill” and “bombastic and risqué.”
Recognition and collaborators
A viral performance of “Fun” on the YouTube channel 4 Shooters Only helps bring her music to the attention of artists including Charli XCX and producer Loraine James.
Fashion
In March 2025, Star makes her runway debut for Miu Miu during the final day of Paris Fashion Week. She later references that experience in her track “Paris.”
Name
Her stage name combines a reference to her deadname with an interest in space.
