Cortex

Cortex is a Swedish group from Gothenburg, active from 1980 to 1987. It is associated with post-punk, art punk, gothic rock, new wave and punk, and is identified as an 80s Swedish new wave group. The band includes Freddie Wadling and Jean-Louis Huhta.

Background

Freddie Wadling is the central figure in Cortex: he sings, plays bass and writes the songs. Before Cortex, he plays in several Swedish punk bands, including Liket Lever, Rukorna and The Leather Nun. Cortex later becomes Blue For Two, the new wave and synth duo Wadling forms with Henryk Lipp.

Recording history

The group’s best-known album is Spinal Injuries, released in 1980. A notable track from that record is “The Freaks”.

After Cortex

After Cortex, Freddie Wadling works with Fläskkvartetten, a string quartet, and then records as a solo artist under his own name in Swedish. He also makes a full album of interpretations of Don Van Vliet, known as Captain Beefheart.
