Corona

Corona is an Italian eurodance group active since 1993. The act is centred on Olga Maria de Souza, who is born in Rio de Janeiro and performs under the name Corona. Other members listed with the group are Giovanna Bersola, Sandy Chambers, Francesco Bontempi, Paolo Dughero and Thomas Rückert. The group is associated with the song “The Rhythm of the Night”, which becomes its best-known track.

Corona’s debut single “The Rhythm of the Night” appears in 1994 and brings the group international success. It tops the Italian charts for 13 consecutive weeks and reaches number one in the United Kingdom. The single sells over one million copies. The group is described as an Italian dance and pop act, with eurodance as its core genre.

Olga Maria de Souza is born on 16 July 1968 in Rio de Janeiro into a musical family. Her father is a musician and her mother is a singer. She develops an early interest in music before the group’s breakthrough with “The Rhythm of the Night”.
