Cope

Cope is the name used by two separate bands: a Christian nu/alternative metal group from the United States and an inactive hardcore band from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Christian nu/alternative metal band

The American Cope plays Christian nu/alternative metal and is compared to early Staind. It releases one record, Something Real, around 2000 on Screaming Giant Records. The track and album title Your Love Is Too Much is associated with the act.

Canadian hardcore band

The Canadian Cope is a hardcore band from Edmonton, Alberta. Its 2009 self-titled EP is issued on CD by the band and on 10-inch vinyl by xTRUEx Records. The EP shows influence from fellow Canadian hardcore band Cursed and features dynamic, dark songwriting.

For its 2010 Canadian tour, the band self-releases a tape titled Cancer Is a Gift. That tape contains four songs originally recorded for a planned collaboration album that does not come out. It becomes the group’s most acclaimed release.

Cope becomes inactive after the 2010 Canadian tour, though it never officially ends. Members later move into other projects: Kevin plays in Book of Caverns and Maus; Matt in Todos Caerán and Language of Zuyua; Nathan in Moons and Language of Zuyua; Durell in Mahria, Falsehood, Dysplasia and Cygnus; and Todd also plays in Maus. The band reunites in May 2011 to perform at the Ghost Throats DIY Festival in Edmonton.
