There are multiple artists using the name Coop. One is Reuben Brady, who records under the name “coop” and as part of the duo “nic and reuben”.

Another Coop is a Southern rap artist who begins his music career in 1999 with the group 24 Karats. In that group, he mainly works as a DJ and manager before moving into solo recording. The group focuses on mixtapes and freestyles and builds a local following on the east side of Houston, with performances in places including Kingwood and Barrett Station.

As a solo artist, he releases his first mixtape, The Demo, in 2002. It is made available online and attracts a large number of downloads, helping establish him in the local underground hip-hop scene. He follows it with In command in 2004, another online release that gains extensive traffic and downloads and leads to a showcase for Gigamerica, connected with Sony Urban, where he reaches the national event finals.

Coop later appears on Harvey Luv’s video for “Shut Yo Mouth” and collaborates or performs with artists including Lil Boosie, Young Joc, Trae, Juvenile, Rob G, Slim Thug, Lil Kano, ESG, Trai’D and the G Spot Boyz. In 2005, he helps form LOL Entertainment with DreTL and BlaKC. After submitting “Who You Thought it Was” to Americanidolunderground.com, the trio receives recognition for “Best Rap Song” and “Best Rap Group in 2006” and is featured in American Idol Magazine.

By 2007, Coop appears on albums by Fred Binz, Harvey Luv, Zeb Pittman, OG Fuse and Wayne Bell, and continues performing across the South. He also signs with POBAM Music for a project titled The Inauguration, which features production by Harvey Luv and Lil Kano and guest appearances from Lil Kano, ESG, Da Beast and OG Fuse. His single “Swagga Jacka” is also noted as a major online track.
