Cookin' On 3 Burners is a Melbourne, Australia-based trio formed in 2000. The group consists of Jake Mason on organ, Ivan Khatchoyan on drums and Lance Ferguson on guitar, who also performs with The Bamboos. Their sound combines deep funk, jazz, boogaloo and soul, with the Hammond organ as a central feature.

Career

The group first builds a local following through a series of Melbourne residencies and a self-released 7-inch single. It then gains wider attention with the 12-inch Cressy St Breakdown, released on Knowfoowl and distributed in the United States through Groove Distribution. Gravel Rash is later reissued on the UK label Freestyle, followed by the 7-inch Keb’s Bucket.

Cookin' On 3 Burners performs at venues and festivals in Melbourne and Sydney, and appears on bills supporting Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings and Breakestra. The trio also plays three gigs in less than 24 hours during the ANZAC Day holiday period in Sydney.

The band is known as an organ trio that connects funk, soul, boogaloo and jazz. Its releases attract attention from international DJs, jazz critics and fans. The group also collaborates with Kylie Auldist.
