Continents

Continents is a metalcore and hardcore group from the United Kingdom, formed in South Wales in 2010. The band’s line-up includes Phil Cross, Keiron Dix, Darryl Sweet, Scott Waters and Rhys Griffiths.

Background and style

The group starts as a five-piece made up of friends from South Wales, combining a shared interest in hardcore with a workmanlike approach to writing and performing. Their sound is described through hard-hitting breakdowns, fast pace and a heavy, aggressive style that sits within the hardcore and metalcore scene.

Early releases and profile

After forming, Continents releases its first single, “Trials”, and quickly builds a following online. The band later receives a significant boost after being voted favourite UK metal act on YouTube, which brings a homepage feature and wider attention. By the time it appears at Ghostfest in 2012, it is already drawing a large audience and sharing bills with established acts such as The Black Dahlia Murder, Defeater, Emmure and Comeback Kid.

Label and album

Continents signs to Victory Records and releases the album Idle Hands. The record is presented as some of the band’s heaviest material, continuing its direct, breakdown-led approach to hardcore.
