Conrad Sewell is an Australian singer and songwriter from Brisbane. He is also associated with the short-lived rock band Sons of Midnight.

Early life and background

Born in 1988, Sewell grows up in Brisbane and attends St Laurence's College from 1998 to 2005. He begins pursuing music at a young age, sending out demos from the age of eight. He is the brother of singer-songwriter Grace Sewell.

Career

In 2004, Sewell auditions for the second season of Australian Idol but does not get past the audition stage. He later performs with Sons of Midnight before moving into solo work. He spends years recording songs in garages and saving money to move to the UK, where he feels pop music is more widely accepted. At 18, he moves to the UK and uses a credit card to record a demo. He later moves to Los Angeles to develop his solo project.

Solo work and collaborations

Sewell is best known for his vocals on Kygo's single "Firestone" and for his solo single "Start Again", which reaches number one. Before his solo release, he writes and sings on "Firestone", which becomes a top-five hit in many countries. His debut single "Hold Me Up" is written and produced by Brian Lee, The Euroz and Louis Bell. Other people involved in shaping his later solo music include Jamie Hartman, Sam Hollander and Eric Rosse.

Tours

In 2015, Sewell joins Ed Sheeran on an Australian tour, appearing on 13 dates, and is also confirmed to support Maroon 5 on their September tour.
