Common Saints
Common Saints is the psychedelic soul project of London-based writer and producer Charlie Perry. The name refers to a good Samaritan, meaning someone who helps another person selflessly, often in an emergency.
Background
Perry is born in London and grows up in Oxfordshire. He begins classical piano training at the age of six, then starts experimenting with music production at 14 after discovering Propellerhead’s Reason at school. During those years he also learns guitar and drums, which shapes the instrumental approach in his work.
Recording work and style
Under the Common Saints name, Perry releases the Idol Eyes EP in 2019. The project combines psychedelic and soulful elements, with references to jazz, psychedelic rock, soul and blues. His debut album, Cinema 3000, is described as a cinematic and expansive record, with warm, layered arrangements and a spiritual, hopeful tone.
Other writing and production credits
Outside Common Saints, Perry works as a writer and producer for other artists. His credits include Jorja Smith’s breakthrough EP Project 11, collaborations with Olivia Dean, Maverick Sabre and Lola Young, and writing and production on BTS’s “Singularity”.
Musical identity
Common Saints functions as Perry’s solo outlet, bringing together the range of influences and techniques he develops through his production work and earlier musical training.
