Com Truise

Com Truise is the electronic project of Seth Haley, a producer and designer born in 1985 in Oneida, United States. Haley grows up in upstate New York and works from Princeton, New Jersey. He begins making music in the early 2000s, first as a DJ and under a series of other aliases, including Sarin Sunday, SYSTM and Airliner.

Style and influences

His music is described as experimental and bass-heavy, and he refers to it as “mid-fi synthwave” and “slow-motion funk”. It draws on synthwave, chillwave, electronic and synthpop, with traces of influences such as Joy Division, New Order and the Cocteau Twins. The sound is shaped by nostalgia, but also by an interest in electronics product design and a deliberately altered, lo-fi texture.

Releases

Com Truise’s first release is the Cyanide Sisters EP, issued for free on the AMdiscs label in 2011. It includes mellow tracks such as “Sundriped” and “Slow Peels”, harder IDM-oriented pieces like “BASF Ace” and “IWYWAW”, and more off-kilter funk-influenced tracks such as “Norkuy” and “Komputer”. This is followed by the single “Pyragony/Trypyra” and a series of podcast mixes called Komputer Cast.

Label affiliation

He is later associated with the Ghostly roster.
