Coloureds

Coloureds is an Oxford-based electro duo active from 2008, made up of Matt Mooney and Nick Brewer. Both members previously play in hardcore rock band Xmas Lights, and they carry that background in heavy and erratic sounds into a more dance-oriented project shaped by disco and electro.

The duo set up their own studio and build tracks from sampled sounds drawn from vintage and modern synthesisers, then combine them with the harsher tones of circuit-bent children’s keyboards and toys. Their music is arranged into driving, dancefloor rhythms and beats.

In performance, Coloureds use colourful rubber masks and work with laptops and samplers, looping and mixing stems from their recorded material to create new versions of their tracks. They also run these sounds through effects units to alter and intensify the results.

Their release Camelopardalis EP includes new tracks and a number of remixes.
