Colour The Atlas
Colour The Atlas are an indie-pop, singer/songwriter act from France. The group consists of four friends: Jess Hall on vocals, Alex Stone on guitar and vocals, Andy Vincent on bass, and Stef Pysanczyn on drums. The act is known for a largely acoustic sound and for songwriting that places Jess and Alex’s vocal partnership at its centre.
Background
The group develops from an earlier line-up called the Jess Hall Band. In that previous incarnation, they receive BBC Radio 1 support for their debut EP Play Shy. Colour The Atlas later continue under their new name with the same core musicians.
Style and influences
Their music draws on Bon Iver, Angus & Julia Stone, Iron & Wine and Fleet Foxes, along with other artists associated with intimate, layered acoustic songwriting. Their arrangements are described as agile and complex, with harmonies between Jess Hall and Alex Stone forming a key part of the group’s identity.
Releases
Colour The Atlas release an EP on Ugly Truth Records in late October 2012. They also make the song Space Voyage.
