Colour of Fire

Colour of Fire is an alternative rock band from York, United Kingdom, active from 2001. The group forms around co-songwriters Owen Richards and Stuart Jones, with Thom Craigen on bass and Matt Lunn on drums. The band takes its name from a Boards of Canada song.

Early releases and radio support

The band signs to Riverman Records after Steve Lamaca plays “Decisions, Decisions” on BBC Radio One. They appear on Radio One’s Rock Show and are named “Single of the Week” on Zane Lowe’s XFM show. Their second single, “Cut It,” receives regular rotation on MTV2.

Touring and live activity

Colour of Fire tours widely in the UK and Europe, supporting Placebo, The Libertines, The Bronx, The Kills, The Icarus Line, Silverchair and Sparta among others. They also tour Japan and support Korn in Osaka and Tokyo at SonicMania. In 2004 they support Placebo on a European tour, including consecutive nights at London’s Brixton Academy.

Albums and later history

In summer 2003, the band records its debut album with Steve Osborne at Rockfield and Real World Studios. Pearl Necklace is released in 2004 by Riverman in the UK, PIAS in Europe and King Records in Japan. The band disbands in 2005 as the members pursue other projects: Owen forms Grammatics, Stuart moves to Berlin and forms Die Zerstörten, and Matt Lunn joins Placebo on drums.

Reunion

Colour of Fire reunites in 2022 and begins work on new material. After an almost two-decade break, the band plays reunion shows in the UK in late 2023 and early 2024. The group later releases its second album, All The Wolves I Have Known, preceded by the singles “All The Wolves I Have Known,” “Shadows” and “Hyperfocus.”
