Cólera

Cólera is a punk rock group from São Paulo, active since 1979. It is one of the oldest and most influential punk bands in Brazil, and its music combines a fast, energetic sound with melodic writing and lyrics focused on political and environmental themes.

History and line-up

The band forms in São Paulo in 1979 as a trio. Its original and long-standing members include Pierre on drums, who remains in the line-up, and Redson, who plays bass, sings and writes much of the material. After Redson's death in 2011, the band continues with Wendel Barros on vocals and Valdemir Pinheiro on bass. Valdemir had previously played bass in the group from 1980 to 1988, and Fábio Bellucci joins on guitars in 2014.

Style and releases

Cólera plays punk and punk rock with a melodic edge and strong political content. The band continues to tour and its later catalogue includes a live split release with the Scottish band The Zips and the Portuguese group Razor Kids.

Position in Brazilian punk

The group remains a major name in Brazilian punk and is associated with the country's hardcore and punk scenes. A tribute concert for Redson brings together other Brazilian punk figures, including João Gordo and Clemente of Inocentes.
