Cold Fronts

Cold Fronts are a Philadelphia group that forms in 2011. Craig Almquist writes the songs and Alex Smith plays drums. The line-up changes over time, but Peter Helmis is currently on bass and Chris Baglivo, also known as Doc Bag, is on guitar.

The band starts out playing shows and Dionysian Rites in West Philadelphia at the Rathaus, a venue that Philadelphia papers dub “Satan’s dorm room” before it is later converted into condos. By 2012, Cold Fronts are supporting act for mewithoutYou, Free Energy, The Morning Benders, The Gay Blades, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. and Vacationer.

Cold Fronts also record a Daytrotter Session and play a run of shows at South by Southwest in Austin after camping in a tent downtown. They work on their second EP with Kyle Slick Johnson, who has worked with the Hives, Wavves, Cymbals Eat Guitars and Modest Mouse. The band describes the songs on that release as raw and some of their most ambitious work.

One performance also sees Andrew W.K. destroy their drum kit.
