Cognizance

Cognizance is a technical death metal group from Leeds, United Kingdom, active since 2012. The project begins in spring 2012 as a studio-based death metal collaboration between Baillie and Pryce. It works with a blend of technical riffs, melodic lines and harsh vocals, and it is associated with death metal, melodic death metal, metal and technical death metal. The group releases material through Prosthetic Records and Willowtip.

Formation and early releases

The project starts as a studio-focused act rather than a live band. Its debut EP, Inquisition, presents the group’s technical and melodic approach. The release also involves a number of guest contributors, including Alex Rudinger on drum performance, Aaron Matts of Betraying The Martyrs, Reece Fullwood of Eumeria, Scott Carstairs of Fallujah, and Sacha Laskow of Ex Divinity and Walk As Chaos.

Lineup and recording personnel

The listed lineup names Henry Pryce on vocals and Alex Baillie on guitars and backing vocals. For the Inquisition tracking sessions, Alex Rudinger appears on drums and Nathan Marshall on bass.
