Coffins

Coffins are a Japanese doom/death metal group from Tokyo, formed in 1996. The band is centred on guitarist and vocalist Uchino and is active with a lineup that includes Uchino, You, Koreeda and Ryo Yamada. Over time, Coffins go through several personnel changes, with Ryo on drums and Koreeda on bass named as part of the group’s core line-up in the available information.

Style and influences

The band’s sound draws on old school 1980s and 1990s doom metal, death metal and thrash metal. Their music is identified with death metal and doom metal, placing them within the Japanese death-doom scene.

Recordings and releases

After several demos, Coffins release their first full-length album, Mortuary In Darkness, in 2005. The following year, The Other Side of Blasphemy appears on 20 Buck Spin and Southern Lord in the United States. Their later full-length Buried Death comes out in 2008. The band also releases split recordings with a number of other metal acts, including Otesanek, Cianide, Grudge, Anatomia, Spun in Darkness, Lobotomized, Hooded Menace and Warhammer.
