Coetus

Coetus is a Spanish group active since 2008. The ensemble focuses on traditional music from the Iberian Peninsula, adapting repertory that includes sevillanas, seguidillas, and popular dances from Castile and Mallorca.

Ensemble and approach

The group is built around a large percussion-led format, with fourteen percussionists, including two women, alongside vocals. Its performances combine singing, chorus work, and a wide range of percussion instruments and improvised sound-making objects. The material draws on older song traditions and is performed in Spanish, Catalan, and Galician.

Vocal roles

Eliseo provides the main voice, while Parra adds vocal decoration and narrates lyrics from ancestral songs associated with the past. The group’s sound is described as linking closely to traditional peninsular vocal styles.

Membership

The group includes Ana Rossi and Aleix Tobias.
